RARE ALLERGY TO THE SUN

Lorraine Valentine has been dubbed a ‘real life vampire’ as she suffers from a rare skin disease that causes a severe burning sensation when exposed to sunlight. She ended up in hospital for six days as her skin swelled up and she was in agony. She always desires to go to the beach with her children, but is limited to staying indoors because of this condition. A fan in her house is the only way in which she copes with the heat that causes her extreme pain. She said that it was only at night that she could enjoy the holiday, going to the beach and exploring the town.

ADEN DUALE A TERRORIST?

Patrick Makau, an MP from Mavoko county, claimed that Aden Duale from Garissa township, knew about the terror attack on the Garissa University College. He further mentioned that Duale ought to be interrogated and his links with Al-shabaab terror group investigated. He also asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to relieve Duale of his duties as Majority Leader in the National Assembly.

KENYA STRUGGLES TO END MOTHER TO CHILD HIV TRANSMISSION

The National AIDS and STI Control Programme, (NASCOP) hosted a meeting to evaluate where countries individually and the nation as a whole are in the effort to eliminate mother to child HIV transmission. Kenya has been listed as one of the countries that has the highest transmission rates with the global deadline for eliminating mother to child transmission being December 31, 2015.

Xenophobic killings in South Africa

Over 250 people have been attacked in South Africa, mostly from the Democratic Republic of Congo; and foreign-owned shops have been looted in the port city of Durban. This comes from the alleged comments of the Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini, who mentions that the attacks are against those who do not have official papers and documentation in South Africa. President Jacob Zuma’ son, Edward, has come out in support of The Zulu King’s comments saying that the foreigners are taking over their country. More than 1,000 people, mainly African migrants have fled their homes, some going to police stations and others being housed in tents on a sports field.

Great news for those caught up in traffic every day in Nairobi

The government has released information that they have come up with tough measures, which will help decongest roads in Nairobi. The move pioneered by Governor Evans Kidero and CS Michael Kamau, will aim at reducing 500,000 vehicles daily on the streets which according to them costs the nation one billion dollars annually. Some of the immediate measures being undertaken will be reviewing matatu and bus routes, terminals and stops.

Well, I am excited about this new blog. I started a blog on tumblr, but hey, change is always good. I have started this blog because it’s part of class work.
